Gear Up for Summer 2026: Free Activities & Learning Resources for Families!
As we head into the summer break, CREC Magnet Schools have put together a fantastic, comprehensive guide of activities and resources to keep our students engaged, active, and learning all summer long!
Whether you are looking for fun at-home experiments, local community resources, or academic enrichment, there is something for every grade level (Pre-K through 12th Grade).
What’s Included in the Resource Guide?
- All Subjects: Interactive At-Home Scavenger Hunts and Treasure Maps designed specifically for rising 1st through 6th graders.
- Math Enrichment: Daily math preparation resources via Khan Academy (for rising 3rd graders through Pre-Calculus) and STMath puzzles (for rising 1st and 2nd graders).
- Reading Challenges: Information on local reading programs, including the Governor's Summer Reading Challenge and the Yard Goats Reading Challenge (where reading 5 books earns you 2 tickets!).
- STEM & Science: Fun, safe home science experiments, citizen science projects, and a guide to visiting Connecticut museums and science centers using free public library passes.
- Coding & Computer Science: Free coding tutorials and platforms (like Swift Playgrounds, Code Combat, and Codecademy) for rainy or hot summer days.
- Health & Wellness: Free Planet Fitness summer gym memberships for teens (ages 14-19) and information on the Connecticut Summer Meals Program, which offers free meals to kids 18 and under.
- College & Career Readiness: Helpful toolkits and guidance resources for our high school students preparing for their next steps.
