NEW BRITAIN - CREC Academy of Science and Innovation hosted a Microsoft DigiGirlz Day for 70 middle-school girls Wednesday.

Representatives of Microsoft conducted the event, which was an opportunity for the children from several schools to learn and practice activities designed to encourage them to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) careers.

The activities began with information about Women’s History Month and women who have significantly influenced technology through the years.

Guest speaker Niasia Williams, national chairwoman of the National Society of Black Engineers, told the students that this is the perfect time to decide on a career path and encouraged them to try careers in STEM if they were interested.
